If you admit that something bad, unpleasant, or embarrassing is true, then you agree – usually unwillingly – that it is true. So, we often use this word to say that we “admit we made a mistake.” No one really wants to admit they made a mistake, but it’s generally better to confess than let the other person believe something that isn’t true.

Interestingly though, Napoleon Bonaparte is famous for saying this, “In politics, never retreat, never retract, never admit a mistake.” What do you think about this? I actually think that a lot of politician agree with this idea – and that is probably why no country has a political system that is really effective! No one wants to admit their mistakes!
