☆ lie （理由などが) ～にある
We use the word “lie” in a few different ways as I’m sure you know. For today’s meaning, we use it to say what we think a problem or solution, or fault is caused by, or consists of. It’s a bit tricky to understand just from this definition, so let’s take a look at the weekly quote, by Tecumseh:
If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.
To me, this means that if you are not feeling grateful or thankful, it is not because you don’t have anything to feel thankful for, but instead it is because you are not paying attention to all of the things that you should be thankful for. What do you think? Do you agree with my interpretation? Do you agree with this quote?
