Today’s Word: loiter

July 30, 2017 =========

☆  loiter  ぶらぶら歩く

============================

If you loiter somewhere, it means that you stay in that place or you walk up and down, and around there, without any real purpose. This is different from wandering around obviously, and in most places loitering is actually a criminal offence and the owners of that place might call the police!

So, if you are in another country, it’s not a good idea to loiter! If you have to stay in one place for a long time, try and pick somewhere open to everyone, rather than outside a shop for example. If you are meeting someone and think you might have to wait a while for them, you can always research good meeting places, to make sure that you are waiting in a place where it is OK to loiter… like Hachiko at Shibuya station… where it is definitely OK to loiter, but also almost impossible to find the person you are looking for, right? Ha ha.
