☆ take up 始める

If you “take up” an activity you become interested in it and start doing it. This could be related to a hobby or even to a job or career. Here are some example sentences:
Her family wanted her to take up gymnastics.
He quit his company job to take up farming in the countryside!
When she was younger she worked as a model, and now she has decided to take it up again.
He took up running to help him lose weight.
As you can see, you can use it when you start something again. So, if you haven’t studied English for a long time, you could say, “I’ve decided to take up studying English again.”
