============================
Discrimination is when you treat one person or a group of people less fairly or less well than other people or groups. We often talk about sex discrimination, which is usually when women are paid less than men, or not given jobs even though they are just as qualified as the male worker. Of course, sex discrimination can be against men, too, but most of the time in western culture it is against women, not men. How about in Japan? Is it changing?
One comment I heard recently that I thought was interesting, in the US Supreme Court, there are nine judges, one Chief Justice, and eight Associate Justices. One of those Justices is a woman named Ruth Bader Ginsburg (often known as RBG) and she is often asked, “When will there be enough women on the Supreme Court?” and her answer is always, “When there are nine.” In other words, she wants all nine Justices to be women, no men! Do you think this is a good idea, or just another form of discrimination?
Bye,
Chris
