You can use “bold” to describe someone or something. If you describe someone as “bold” then you mean that they are brave and not shy or cautious. When you use “bold” to describe something, you mean that the thing is very bright and noticeable. We often describe fashion as bold, or art can be bold too.
Bold can also be a technical word, and it refers to “bold print” which is the thick print on your computer, other electronic devices, or on paper. This is the thick, black “B” that you will find on most word processing programs. I think this is an easy way to remember the meaning of the word bold; something that is bold stands out and is more noticeable than other things. For example:
“It is a very bold design, with bright, dramatic colors.”
“Great dress Jules, it’s so bold! I love it!”
