A “hint” is a piece of helpful advice, usually about how to do something. However, when talking about “love” it can also be a tip or suggestion. For example, “I keep buying her flowers, I hope that she will realize these are my hints that I want to go out with her.” Or “I left a hint on her desk; a Valentine’s Day card and my phone number!”
“Hint” is usually used when you are trying to be indirect, so instead of saying, “I like you, would you like to go out for dinner?” A hint might be like this, “I’m going out to dinner with friends, would you like to join me?” Have you ever tried to give hints to someone that you liked them? How did it work out? Were you successful?
