☆ battle 戦い
============================
Originally, a “battle” was used to mean a violent fight between groups of people – for example a “war”. However, it is now used more widely to talk about “conflict”, and also to mean “fight”, when talking about someone’s efforts to achieve something despite difficulties. Here are some examples:
There was a gun battle between the police and the drug traffickers. (war)
Let us pay our respects to the men and women who die battle. (war)
There is always a political battle before election time. (conflict)
It seems to be a constant battle between good and evil in the world. (conflict)
He lost her battle against cancer last year. (fight)
She was in a constant battle with her weight. (fight)
Can you use “battle” in a sentence?
Bye,
Chris
