============================
Verbalize is a very formal word. It is often used in medical situations, or written English. When you verbalize your feelings, thoughts or ideas you express them in words. An example would be my niece, who has a young son. Her son is almost 4 years old, he suffers from Asperger Syndrome (アスペルガー症候群) and one of the problems he has had has been learning to talk and verbalizing his feelings.
They have been taking him to therapy for almost one year now, and he is finally learning to verbalize his feelings. The other day, he finally said, “I love you mummy and daddy” for the first time. Naturally they were soooo happy! It must be so hard to be unable to verbalize or express what you want to say. I’m so glad they could have this breakthrough with him.
If you were just talking about someone who doesn’t like to talk about their feelings, and there was no medical reason why they couldn’t do this, for example maybe they are just shy, then you wouldn’t use “verbalize” as it is too formal. Instead you would say, “they have trouble expressing their feelings.”
