I think one of the things that most people miss about Japan when they return to live in their home country is the customs. I mean customs like festivals and celebrations that happen at certain times of year. For example the “Bon Odori” in Mitaka city every August was always one of my favorites. And of course, the New Year’s customs of visiting a shrine.

Then there are the customs that happen regularly rather than at a certain time of year, such as the tea ceremony or blessing the land before you build a house on it. I guess a long history leads to a lot of traditions and customs, right? What are some of your favorite customs in Japan? Are there any customs from other countries that you like? What are they?
