Someone who is “assertive” states their needs and opinions clearly and confidently. Interestingly, this is seen as a positive trait in men, but not so positive in women. How about in Japan? I would imagine that someone who is assertive in Japan might be seen as being aggressive, right?
I think that being assertive is a good trait to have, but it’s important to be confident without being pushy, forceful, or too insistent. (Pushy, forceful and insistent are all possible ways to describe someone who is assertive!)
