When we talk about resources as being precious, we mean that they
are valuable and should not be wasted. Something that is precious is
usually worth a lot of money because they are rare, such as diamonds.
You can also use it to describe things that are precious only to you, for
example, an heirloom from a grandparent.

You can also use “precious” to describe a person. However, in this case,
the meaning is usually negative, not positive like the previous examples.
A person who is precious is someone who behaves too formally, and
unnaturally. It’s usually used like this: “She’s so precious, it’s really annoying!”

貴重な資源とは、価値があり、無駄にしてはならないものを指します。
貴重なものとは、例えばダイアモンドのように希少なので、大金に相当します。
また、例えば祖父母から受け継いだ家宝など、自分にとってだけ貴重なものというものもあるでしょう。

人を表す時にも“Precious”という言葉は使えます。
しかしこの場合は、前述のように肯定的な意味合いではなく、どちらかというとネガティブな意味になります。
“Precious”な人とは、フォーマル過ぎる態度で不自然な人を指すのです。
例えば、
“She’s so precious, it’s really annoying! ”
(彼女、すごく気取っていてイライラするわね)などと使います。
