The word, “waste” is used in a lot of idioms. Do you know any?
Here are the most commonly used ones:

“go to waste” – something is unused, and will be thrown away.
e.g. Eat your vegetables, otherwise they’ll go to waste.

“haste makes waste” – if you try to do something too quickly, you’re
likely to make mistakes and end up needing more time to do the job
again properly.
e.g Don’t rush me, haste makes waste!

“waste away” – dwindle, wither
This is often used to described someone who has lost too much weight.
e.g. She isn’t eating, and she is wasting away.
If you don’t eat enough, you’ll waste away!

“waste of space” – something is of no value
e.g. That broken table is just a waste of space.
