☆ observe　（祝日を）祝う

When we talk about “observing a holiday” it means that we
follow or honor it.” It is the formal way of saying “celebrate”.

For example, on a calendar, you might see the phrase, “Boxing Day
Observed”, this basically indicates that the holiday “Boxing Day” fell
on a weekend, so the day off was change to either the Monday or the
Friday. This seems to be a common custom around the world in order
to have more 3-day weekends!

Is this also the case in Japan? Are holidays observed on different days
in order to have a longer holiday? Do you think this is a good idea or
should we observe a holiday on the actual day that it falls on regardless
of whether it is a weekday or weekend?

祝日を祝うということは、従い、敬意を表すということです。
“Celebrate”のフォーマルな言い方です。

例えば、カレンダーに“Boxing Day Observed”などというフレーズが書いてありますね。
これは、基本的には“Boxing Day”が週末にあたり、月曜日か金曜日に振り替えの休日になるということです。
3日間の週末になるこのシステムは、世界的に共通のようですね！

日本でも同じですよね？
週末にあたる祝日は、振り替えられますか？
これは、良いシステムだと思いますか？
それとも実際の日に、その祝日を祝うべきだと考えますか？
