As you know, the “law” is basically a system of rules that society and
governments develop in order to deal with crime, business agreements
and contracts, and social relationships such as marriage.

In western countries we have “civil law”, which is the set of laws that deal
with the private situations of citizens, for example, marriage and owning a
home.

“Criminal law” is the set of laws which deal with criminals and crimes, for
example theft and murder.

“Common law” is the system of law which is based on decisions that judges have
made in court cases, rather than on written laws passed by governments.

Is this the same as the system in Japan?

ご存知の通り、“law(行動規範)”とは犯罪や、商取引や契約、婚姻などの社会的な関係などを扱うために社会や政府が取り決めることです。

欧米の民法は、婚姻や家を持つなど、個人的な民事を扱います。

刑法は、窃盗殺人など、犯罪を扱う行動規範です。

“普通法”は、政府の取り決めた法律というより、裁判の審査員が判例を決定する法律のシステムです。

日本でも同じシステムでしょうか？
