You probably know this word because you use a “mobile phone”.
The reason it was called a mobile phone was because it was easy
to take with you, easy to move – which is basically the meaning
of “mobile.” In the US, it’s called a “cell phone” because “cell” is
short for “cellular” and the phones work on the cellular network,
rather than the regular phone line.

We also talk about a “mobile society” which is a society, where
people can easily move from one job to another job, from one
house to another, and even from one family to another! (i.e. divorce)
One more way to use this word, is for older people, if you say, “He
is a very mobile guy for his age!” it means that despite his age, he
is still able to move easily, without help.

もうひとつ、年配の人に対して“He is a very mobile guy for his age!”と言ったら、その年齢にもかかわらず、動きが軽やかであるということです。
