So, although this month’s topic is about letting go, today’s
word is about having a reserve, having a back up “just in case”.
For example, we often talk about keeping a “reserve of food and
water” for emergency purposes. When talking about machines and
cars, we can also use this word, for example, a “reserve engine” or
a “reserve tank”. You can also say a “reserve parachute” which is
the second parachute that you use if the main parachute fails.

Can you see a connection? Maybe you noticed that “reserve”
is used emergency situations, when the original is gone or has failed.
When you are just talking about having a extra of something,
that is not really for emergency reasons you can use these words
instead: spare, back up, and extra.
