☆ voyage 航海

Today is my mum’s birthday. I must remember to call her!
Actually I was thinking of her when I saw today’s word,
because I am always amazed when I think of what she
did when we were younger. Although I am “Australian” I was
actually born in England. And so was the rest of my family.
When I was about 3 years old, my father took a job at the University
of South Australia. It was an important job, as he became the professor
and head of the school, so of course it wasn’t going to be a one or
two year job – it was a life-long position. So he flew alone by plane,
to start the job.

Then my mother took a long voyage with me and my siblings. She
took five children – all under 10 years old – on a ship with all of our
possessions, all the way from England to Australia!! Isn’t that crazy?
Can you imagine travelling alone with 5 young children on such
a long voyage? I’m exhausted after an overnight flight from Tokyo
to Australia with just two kids. Ha ha!

Have your parents or grandparents done something that you
think is amazing?

今日は私の母の誕生日です。
おめでとうの電話をするのを忘れないようにしなくては！
実際、今日の単語を見た時に、母を思い出していました。
というのも、私達がまだずっと若い頃に、母がしたことを考えると驚嘆せずにはいられないからです。
私は“オーストラリア人”ですが、産まれはイギリスなのです。
私の家族全員がそうです。
私が3歳位の時に、父が南オーストラリア大学での仕事に就きました。
これは、父が教授になり、のちに学長となる重要な仕事で、1、2年の滞在という訳には行きません。
もしかしたら一生の仕事です。
父は先に飛行機で行き、仕事を始めていました。

その後、母は私と兄弟を連れて長い航海に出たのです。
10歳以下のこどもを5人も連れて、それぞれの持ち物を持ち、イギリスから、はるばるオーストラリアへ！クレージーですよね！
そんなに長い航海に、こども5人を連れて行くことを想像出来ますか？
私は、東京からのフライトにたった2人を連れてきただけで疲れ果てたというのに…(笑)

あなたのご両親、祖父母の話で驚いて感心したことはありますか？
