This word can be used in similar ways to “elaborate” which we
learned on Tuesday. “Elaborate” is used to gather more information
when needed. Clarify is used when you need either more information
or more explanation to help you understand what you already know.

Like “elaborate”, this is a formal word. A more casual way of saying
the same thing would be one of the following:

explain
clear up
simplify
shed light on (informal)
