Today’s word can be broken down into two words: “kindred” which is
the formal word for “similar” and spirit” which means “soul”… in other
words, your kindred spirit is someone who has a “similar soul” to you
– so naturally this is someone who has the same view of life or the
same interests as you.

Your kindred spirit doesn’t need to be someone who you fall in love with.
It could simply be someone who works at your company and hates the
job as much as you do! Lol. It could also be another parent who loves being
a parent as much as you do. In other words, it is someone who you feel a
deep connection with, but not necessarily a romantic connection.

つまり、あなたと“similar soul”、つまり同じような魂を持っている人、要は人生観が似ていて興味の対象が同じ人を指します。

“気が合う人”とは必ず恋に落ちるということではありません。
職場で一緒に仕事をしている人で、あなたと同じ位仕事が嫌な人かもしれません(笑)。
あなたと同じように、親であることを心から喜んでいるという人もいるでしょう。
つまり、深くつながりがあると感じる人であれば、ロマンティックな関係でなくても気が合うと言えるのです。
