☆ breath 呼吸

============================

This word can sometimes be confusing for students. The word
“breath” is a noun, and your “breath” is the air that you take into your
lungs when you breathe. Here are some examples:

She let out a deep breath.
The seminar speaker paused for breath.

However, when you add an “e” to the end and have the word, “breathe”,
This is the verb, for the action of taking air in and out of the lungs.

It’s difficult to breathe in this crowded room
I breathed deeply before I began to speak.

Hope that’s clear!

Bye,
Chris

この言葉は、少し混乱を招くようですね。
名詞の“breath”は呼吸をする時に肺に取り込む息のことです。
例:

She let out a deep breath.
(彼女は大きく息をついた)

The seminar speaker paused for breath.
(セミナーの講師は一息ついた)

しかし“breath”の最後に“e”をつけると“breathe”となり、これは動詞で、肺に息を入れる動作になります。

It’s difficult to breathe in this crowded room.
(この混雑した部屋では息もできないよ)

I breathed deeply before I began to speak.
(話を始める前に大きく呼吸をしました)

これではっきりと分かりましたか?

それでは!
