☆ likely 適当な

============================

Today’s word can be used to describe someone or something
that is probably suitable for a particular purpose. For example,
in a business situation, “Mr. Suzuki is a likely candidate for manager
of the sales division.”

However, there is one other use of “likely” that I’d like to introduce
you to. It is the informal phrase, “not likely”, this basically means the
same as “no” or in stronger situations, “no way”. Here’s an example:

A: Are you going to the party this weekend?
B: Not likely.

A: Do you think they’ll get married?
B: Not likely…

Bye,
Chris

“Mr. Suzuki is a likely candidate for manager of the sales division. ”

A: Are you going to the party this weekend?
B: Not likely.

A:Do you think they’ll get married?
B:Not likely…
