If you “know” a word when you read it or hear it, then it is in your
passive vocabulary. If you “know” a word and can read it, hear and
understand it, and use it yourself, then it is in your active vocabulary.

The more active vocabulary you have, the better you’ll be able to
speak and understand English, which is why it is a good idea to combine
different methods of study for English. Just reading is not enough. Just
writing is not enough. Just listening practice is not enough. Just speaking
practice is not enough, either! If you want to improve your English, you
need to study in all areas!

Did you notice where I used today’s word? If you did, then you know that this
word is in your passive vocabulary. If you didn’t notice it, go back and re-read!

見たり聞いたりした時に「知っている」言葉だったら、それは、あなたの理解語彙ということになります。
言葉を知っていて、読むことが出来、聞いても理解出来て、自分で使いこなせるが出来れば、それはあなたの表現語彙です。

表現語彙が多いほど、英語を話し、理解することが出来ます。
