Oh! That’s interesting, Friday the 13th, but today’s word is “fortunate”.
For some reason, Friday the 13th has been considered an unlucky day
in Western superstition.

It’s strange, but there doesn’t seem to be any real reason for Friday the
13th to be an unlucky day. There are some historical reasons why people
thought Friday was a bad luck day, and also why 13 was considered an
unlucky number, but it wasn’t until around the beginning of the 19th century
that “Friday the 13th” was considered to be unlucky.

So, in fact, Friday the 13th could really be a “fortunate” day rather than
an unlucky day, it really just depends on how you think! So, like this month’s
title; Choose to Be Happy, we can choose to think Friday the 13th is actually
a fortunate day. 🙂

13日の金曜日なのに、今日の言葉が「fortune(幸せな)」です。
欧米の迷信では、なぜか13日の金曜日はアンラッキーな日と言われます。

不思議なことに、13日の金曜日が不運な日とされるいわれはないようです。
金曜日がアンラッキーという歴史的な理由があり、13という数字が不運なナンバーであるとされていますが、19世紀の初め頃まで13日の金曜日がアンラッキーな日とはされていなかったのです。
ということは、考え方によっては13日の金曜日はアンラッキーと言うよりも、むしろ幸運な日ともいえるのです。
考え方次第ですね。
今月のテーマ、「Choose to Be Happy – 幸せをチョイスする」的な考え方をすれば、13日の金曜日もラッキーな日になりますよね！
