☆ complain　ぐちをこぼす

When I first worked in an office in Japan (as a manager of
teachers instead of as a teacher) I often said things that
sounded like I was complaining… actually I didn’t think that
I was complaining at all, and I certainly didn’t mean to
complain!

However, it seemed that my coworkers who were Japanese
misunderstood me… I was just stating a fact, for example, “it’s
hot in this room”, but to them it seemed like I was complaining.
And so one of my coworkers often said, “You complain all the time”
and “Stop complaining”.

It took me a while to understand, but finally I realized this might
be a cultural difference. For me, I thought I was just stating a fact,
whereas for my Japanese coworkers, even though the room was
hot, they didn’t say anything, because they didn’t want to complain –
instead they just did the “gaman” style of Japanese culture.

What do you think? Was this a cultural difference? Or was I just
complaining too much?! lol

私が初めて日本の会社で働いた時は、教師ではなく教師をまとめるマネージャーだったのですが、ぐちをこぼしていると思われることが多かったようです。
自分では、ぐちをこぼしているつもりはなかったし、不満もなかったのです。

しかし、日本人の同僚は誤解をしていたようです。
私は、例えば「この部屋は暑いね」などと事実を言っていただけなのに、文句を言っているように聞こえたのです。
同僚のひとりには、「あなたはいつもぐちを言っているね。」、「文句を言うのはやめなよ！」と言われました。

理解をするまでに時間がかかりましたが、これは文化の違いがあるのでは、と思います。私は事実を言いますが、たとえ部屋が暑くても、日本人の同僚はぐちを言いたくないので何も言いません。
日本の文化のひとつである「がまん」をするのです。

どう思いますか？
文化の違いでしょうか？
それとも、私がぐちを言っていたのでしょうか？笑。
