There are a few ways to use this word. If you dominate a situation, then
you are the most powerful or important person in that situation. For example:

He dominated the conversation.
I hope the Eigo Techo Diary will dominate the best-seller list next year! 🙂

You can also use it to show that one person has power over another. For
example:

In some countries, women are still dominated by men in society.

And finally, you can use it to mean “overshadow”, when talking about some
building or mountain or thing that is so large or impressive that you cannot
avoid seeing it. For example:

The Sydney Opera House and Harbour Briday dominate the harbor view.
Mt. Fuji dominates the landscape and culture of Japan.

今日の言葉の使い方は幾通りかあります。
状況を支配する、という場合はその場で一番の権力者、あるいは重要な人物であるということです。
例：

He dominated the conversation.
(彼は話題を支配していた)

I hope the Eigo Techo Diary will dominate the best-seller list next year!:)
(この英語手帳が来年のベストセラーランキングを支配すると良いけど！:))

また、ひとりの人が他の人よりも力を持っていることを示す場合にも使えます。
例：

In some countries, women are still dominated by men in society.
(今でも、社会の中では女性が男性に支配されている国がある。)

さらには、大きな建物や山など、大きかったり印象が強かったりするため、目に入ってしまうもののことを指す場合もあります。
例：

The Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge dominate the harbor view.
(シドニーのオペラハウスとハーバーブリッジが、港の景観を支配している)

Mt. Fuji dominates the landscape and culture in Japan.
