☆ quietly　つべこべ言わずに

If you do something quietly, it usually means that you don’t make
any noise when you are doing it. However, sometimes the meaning can
be like today’s word, when “noise” means complaining. In other words
you do something quietly, you do it without complaining or grumbling.

In English, we also have a verb “go quietly”, and it is usually used in the
negative form, as in “not go quietly”. We use this when a person is leaving a
place or job, and they are complaining as they go. For example:

The protestors did not go quietly.
She is planning to quit her job, but I don’t think she’ll go quietly!

何かを静かにするということは、音を立てずに行うということです。
しかし、今日の言葉のように音＝文句という意味でも使うことがあります。
つまり、つべこべ言わずにものごとを行うということは、不平や文句を言わずにやる、ということです。

英語では「go quietly」という動詞があり、「not go quietly」などと否定的に使うことが多いです。
仕事を辞める時や、ある場所を離れる際に、不平を言いながら去るという意味です。
例：

The protestors did not go quietly.
抗議者たちがおとなしく去ることはなかった

She is planning to quit her job, but I don’t think she’ll go quietly!
彼女は仕事を辞めるそうだが、とてもおとなしく辞めるとは思えない
