Oh! Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Valentine’s Day in Japan is always so strange for me!
In Western culture, on Valentine’s Day, men AND women
give romantic gifts to their partner… or to the person they
secretly like (this gift is usually anonymous).

So there is no expectation of receiving chocolate from
a coworker like there is in Japan! It’s so strange for me that
women give chocolates on Valentine’s Day – because although
as I said, in the West, men and women give gifts, it is mostly
men who do. In fact, Valentine’s Day is more like White Day…

What are your expectations for today? Do you think
you’ll get chocolate or flowers?

ハッピー・バレンタイン！

日本のバレンタインは、変わっていますね。
欧米でバレンタインデイは、女性も、男性も、それぞれのパートナーにロマンティックなプレゼントをするものです。
もしくは、ひそかに思いを寄せている人に(多くは匿名で)プレゼントを贈ります。

そういうことなので、日本のように同僚からチョコレートをもらうなどは期待もしないことです。
私からしたら、女性がバレンタインデイにチョコレートを贈ることは少し変に感じます。
先ほども述べたように、欧米では男女ともにプレゼントをしますが、男性からの方が多いからです。
日本のホワイトデイのようなものですね。

あなたは、今日誰からプレゼントを期待しますか？
チョコレートや、花束のプレゼントはあるかな？
