The word “film” is more commonly used in Britain, than in the US. In
the US, films are usually called movies. In Britain it is a “film” or a
“picture”.

When British people are going to see a film, they say this:

I’m going to the cinema.
Or
I’m going to the picutres.

American people say this:
I’m going to the movies.

Here are some more examples:

The book was made into a film. (UK)
The book was made into a movie. (US)

The film was a flop. (UK)
The movie was a flop. (US)

“Film(=映画)”という言葉は、アメリカよりもイギリスでよく使われる言葉です。
アメリカでは“movie”というのが一般的ですが、イギリスでは“film”か、“picture”と言います。

イギリスで映画を見に行く時には、“I’m going to the cinema,”か“I’m going to the pictures”と言います。
アメリカでは“I’m going to the movies”というのが普通です。
