I was surprised this month by how many cooking words are also used in
idioms. Is this the same in Japanese? Are cooking words used in idioms
unrelated to cooking?

Today’s word is of course also used!

When you “chop and change” (informal) it means that you keep changing
your mind about something.

“Chop chop” is often used by someone when they want another person to
hurry up.

Of course, it’s also used for cooking too…
Chop the onions very finely.
Here are the chopped tomatoes.
Chop the butter into small cubes.
