Sometimes kid’s songs and books can be a great way to
increase your vocabulary and grammar ability in English.

For example, The Very Hungry Catepillar by Eric Carle is a
fun and very popular story, even in Japan. It basically uses
a repetition of the same word, “ate” (the past tense of today’s
word, eat). And in addition, it uses counters, each day the
hungry catepillar eats one more thing than the day before. It also
has a lot of fun food vocabulary, too.

If you are just starting to read kid’s books, it’s better to look for
books that are for younger children as there is always a lot
of repetition in them, plus a simple story. If you’re not a beginner
then books for older kids are fine, but I would stay away from
“fantasy” books as they often have made-up vocabulary in them.

時々、子ども用の歌や本が、あなたの語彙を増やしたり、文法力のアップにとても良い手段になる事があります。

例えば、エリック・カールが書いた「The Very Hungry Catepillar (はらぺこあおむし)」は楽しく、日本でも大変人気のある本です。
その本は基本的には同じ単語「ate （今日の単語“eat 食べる”の過去形）」を繰り返し使っています。
さらに数字を使っています。その青虫は毎日、前の日よりも１つ多くのものを食べるのです。
いろいろな楽しい食べ物の語彙も載っています。

もし、初めて子ども向けの本を読もうとするなら、幼児向けの本がいいでしょう。
繰り返しが多いですし、ストーリーは常にシンプルです。
初心者でないなら、年上の子ども向けの本もいいですが、ファンタジーはおすすめできません。
著者が勝手に作った言葉がよく使われているからです。
