It seems like being divorced is also different in Japan compared
to western culture. It’s easy to get divorced in America and Australia
and so many people get married thinking, “I might get divorced” rather
than thinking, “this is the person I will be with for my whole life.”

My family is actually pretty typical of the situation in western culture.
One sister has been divorced twice and is on her third marriage. One
sister divorced and remarrried a man who was also divorced. One
sister married a man who was divorced. I have so many nieces and
nephews!! Actually, I don’t know if this is typical of western culture…
maybe it is typical of western TV dramas! Ha ha.

What is the situation regarding divorced people in Japan, is it common
to remarry?

「離婚した」というのは日本と西洋文化を比べてみるとまた違うようです。
アメリカやオーストラリアでは離婚することが容易なので、結婚する時、多くの人たちは「一生ずっと、この人と一緒に」という考え方よりも、「離婚するかもしれない」という考え方です。

私の家族は西洋文化の典型的な状況です。
一人の姉は２回離婚し、そしていまは３回目の結婚中。
そして、もう１人の姉は離婚して、こちらも離婚した男性と再婚しました。
最後の姉は、離婚した男性と結婚しました。
私には姪と甥たくさんいます！
あ、実は典型的な西洋文化ではなく、これは典型的な西洋のテレビドラマかもしれませんね！（笑）

日本の状況では、離婚した人が再婚するのは一般的ですか？
