As I talked about yesterday, there seems to be a stigma
attached to unmarried women in Japan, right? In fact, this
isn’t just a problem in Japan. In some 2011 American research,
the unmarried women said in interviews that they still feel
there is a stigma attached to being unmarried.

The title of the research paper was, “I’m a loser, I’m not
married.” Oh no! I hope people don’t really feel that way
just because they are unmarried. They interviewees said the
reason they felt this way was because being married and
motherhood are still considered to be “central” to being a
woman.

Is there still a stigma to being umarried in Japan?

昨日話したように、日本では女性が未婚のままでいることが不名誉なようですね。
でも、これは日本だけの問題ではありません。
２０１１アメリカンリサーチの中の、未婚女性へのインタビューでは、未婚のままでいることにまだ一種の不名誉を感じることがある、と答えています。

その研究論文のタイトルは「私は負け犬、私は独身」です。
まったく！大変なタイトルですね。
未婚であることが原因で、本当に彼女たちがそんな風に感じていないといいのですが。
そう感じた理由をインタビューされた女性たちは、「結婚していること」、「母であること」は、いまだに女性の“主要なこと”であると考えられている、と語っていました。

日本でも未婚のままでいることを一種の不名誉だと思いますか？
