When I was in high school I came to Japan for a 6-week homestay.
The family I stayed with had two daughters, one my age and one
who was around 21 and studying in university.

At that time, I learned about the idea of Japanese women being like
Christmas cake, “no good after the 25th”. At first I didn’t understand
and then the older sister explained that a woman should be married
by age 25. I was so shocked by this idea!

Things have changed though, right? And now, women are getting
married much later and sometimes not at all, right? What do you think
has led to these changes?

高校生の時にホームステイのため、６週間ほど来日しました。
その家族には娘さんが２人いて、１人は私と同い年。
もう１人はお姉さんで２１歳くらいの大学生でした。

その時知ったのが、日本の女性は「クリスマスケーキのように、２５を過ぎるとダメ」という考え方でした。
最初はよく分からなかったのですが、お姉さんが、女性は２５歳までに結婚しているほうが良い、という事だと説明してくれました。
私はとてもショックでした！

いまはだいぶ違いますよね。
女性が結婚するのも遅くなりましたし、結婚しない場合もありますよね。
こんな変化を起こしたのはなんだと思いますか？
