☆ stop by 立ち寄る

When I was a kid growing up in Australia, people
always used to stop by our house to say hi, and sometimes
they’d stay longer to chat, and have a coffee, sometimes not.
Their visit was of course unexpected.

Stopping by someone’s house is not really that easy in Japan,
right? I guess because most people travel by train so no one
gets off at other stations? Or because people live far from
each other, it is unusual to just stop by, without planning
in advance, perhaps?

Do you think Japan has this culture of just “stopping by”
someone’s house unplanned?　Or is it impolite to stop by
unexpected.

私がオーストラリアで育った子どもの頃、よく覚えているのは、いつも親の知り合いや友達が私の家に立ち寄って、「Hi！（元気？）」と言って、たまに中に入ってコーヒーを飲んだりしていました。
もちろん、彼らの訪問は予定されていませんでした。

友達の家に立ち寄るのは日本ではちょっと難しいですよね？
みんな、電車で移動しているので、自分の用事がある駅でしか降りないから？
ばらばらに住んでいるので、予定を立てずに立ち寄るのは珍しいのでしょうか？

計画せずにちょっと「stop by（立ち寄る）」という文化は日本にありますか？
もしくは、予定外の訪問は失礼なことですか？
