Today’s Word: balance

============================

The balance in your bank account is the amount of money you have in it. Back in the “olden days”, you could go into a bank and say to the teller, “I’d like to check the balance in my account please.” However, these days, you would probably just use the ATM to check your balance. Or even your phone! In fact, I can’t really remember the last time I used an actual person or ATM to check my balance. All my banking is done online or on my phone.

When I do use the ATM to withdraw money, I always take the receipt or choose “no receipt” because I often see people who leave behind their receipts and everyone can see their information. In New York, a few years ago (2011 maybe?) a person using an ATM found a receipt that said the person’s balance was $99 million!!! Wow!! That’s a LOT of money to just have in a savings account! The photo of the receipt went viral, and it turns out it belonged to a VERY rich Wall Street executive.

Have you ever found an ATM receipt showing someone else’s balance? Were you surprised by the balance amount?

Bye,

Chris
