Giving an explanation of something that has happened means giving people reasons for what happened. This is generally in an attempt to justify why it happened. For me, giving an explanation of why something happened, without making it sound like an excuse is quite hard! How about you?

For example, if you are trying to give an explanation of why you were late, does it end up being an excuse? So, these days I often drive places and if I’m late I can give an explanation of it being “bad traffic” or “the baby needed a nappy change” and so on, but in the end, I just should have left earlier, right?

Do you think it is possible to give an explanation that isn’t also an excuse?
