Today’s Word: meditate

☆  meditate  瞑想する

============================

Hmm, this is another one of those words that most native speakers wouldn’t say “my hobby is meditating.” However, they would be likely to say, “I like to meditate each morning.” Or “I like to meditate before I got to bed.”

How about in Japan? Do people like to meditate? Would it be considered a hobby, or something that people do for their mental health?

I’ve tried to meditate, but I’ve never been able to do it very consistently… maybe I need to think about it like a hobby! So instead of thinking I should meditate each day, I should try to meditate every Saturday morning – instead of going to a tennis lesson on a Saturday morning, I meditate, for example! (I don’t go to tennis lessons, that’s just an example!) Maybe if meditating was my hobby, it would be easier to do more often… What do you think??

Bye,
