A person’s gender is the fact that they are male or female. In terms of diversity, you might use this word in this way: “No one should be discriminated against on the basis of gender, color, or age.” Or, if you’re like me, a parent trying to buy toys for your child, you might wonder, “Why are there so many gender-specific toys around these days?”
When I try to buy toys for my two boys, it drives me crazy! Everything is either pink or blue. Pink is apparently for the female gender, and blue is for the male gender. I’m sure you know the famous block toys, Lego, right? They are just blocks that stick together to create fun things – but now they have Lego for boys, and Lego for girls! There is no difference, just the colors!
Are pink and blue also considered gender-specific colors in Japan? Seems silly to me – I love both pink AND blue!
