☆ perception ものの見方
============================
Your perception of something is the way that you think about it or the impression you have of it. Our perception of something is affected by our life experience and our knowledge of the situation. So you and I may look at the same situation or story, and have different perceptions because our life experiences, knowledge and so on is different.
I think comedy is a good cultural example of different perceptions. I love comedy, but when I watched comedians in Japan, I didn’t really understand it that well – and only occasionally laughed! Whereas in Australia, I (usually) laugh a lot when watching a comedian. I believe this is not because of language skills, but instead because my life experiences have given me a different perception of what is funny or not funny.
What do you think? Is English comedy easy or hard for you to understand? Do you think it is just because of the language barrier or like I said, maybe also affected by our perception of what is / is not funny?
Bye,
Chris
