If you are affectionate, you show your love or fondness for another person in your behavior toward them. In Australia, it is common for people to be openly affectionate. For example, when we meet good friends we give affectionate hugs as a greeting. Couples often walk hand in hand when they are shopping or going for a walk along the beach. Here are a couple of examples:
They seem devoted to each other and are very affectionate.
She gave me a long and affectionate hug.
