☆ impress 影響を与える
There are two meanings for “impress”. The first one is when something impresses you, it moves you or inspires you. “What impressed you most about the story?” Or “He is always trying to impress his girlfriend.”
However, there is another meaning, which is not as well known. If you impress something on someone, you make them understand the important of it. In other words, you emphasize it. For example, “Their father had always impressed upon them that if they worked hard they would succeed in life.” Or “His boss impressed upon him the need for more professionalism.
Have you heard “impress” used in both these ways?
