The ambience of a place is the character and atmosphere that a place seems to have. This word is mostly used in written English, in novels and literary work. In everyday English, you would be more likely to say “atmosphere” but it is quite OK to say ambience. In fact, “ambience” is a little bit of “cool” word, so feel free to use it. 🙂
