When we use fierce to describe an animal, we are talking about an aggressive animal such as lions, tigers, and grizzly bears. Human beings can be fierce too – as we can see from all of the terrible wars and violence that happens constantly around the world. A fierce person is an angry or aggressive person.
We can also describe feelings or actions as fierce. Fierce feelings and actions are very intense or enthusiastic. “The competition to win the election has been fierce.” Or “She inspires fierce loyalty in her friends.” Or “He replied in such a fierce manner that I was a little afraid.”
