Today’s word is the opposite of “bold” from the other day. If you describe a color, a style, or an effect as understated, you mean that it is no obvious, it is subtle. Although most people like bold fashion because it creates an impact, it is often the understated fashion that has longevity, don’t you think?
Have you ever watched a fashion show, or seen the photos of designer label catwalk fashion? It’s all bold and a little bit crazy – not the kind of thing that the average person could wear! However, when that crazy, bold catwalk fashion is transformed into fashion to be sold in the stores, it is usually an understated version of the original. Which do you prefer; bold or understated fashion? Before you answer, in case you were wondering though, understated is not a negative!
