☆ stand for 我慢する
============================
Today’s word is usually used in the negative as in “not stand for” and it means that you will not allow something to happen or continue to happen. Here are some examples:
It’s outrageous and I will not stand for it any more!
My boss will not stand for lateness.
The teacher did not stand for poor behavior.
Another way to say the same thing is “to put up with” or “to tolerate”, when you want to say something in the positive format, then it is more usual to use these words rather than “stand for.” For example:
I guess I can put up with it for a week. OK
I guess I can tolerate it for a week. OK
I guess I can stand for it for a week. NG
I won’t stand for it for more than a week. OK
Bye,
Chris
