Smooth is used to describe things such as surfaces that have no roughness, lumps or bumps. For example, “This face cream will keep your skin soft and smooth.” You can also use “smooth” to describe alcohol and men!
For alcohol (and actually coffee too) you can describe it as smooth if you want to say that it is not bitter and it is pleasant to drink. For example, “My new coffee machine makes a really smooth coffee.” Or “The process we use to produce the wine makes the end product very smooth.”
For men, when you describe them as smooth, it is actually a negative thing. It means that you think they are smart, confident and a good talker, but in an unpleasant way. For example, “My boss is such a smooth talker; I really don’t like having meetings with him.” Or “The dating show usually picks a good-looking, smooth young man to be the bachelor.” Do you know any smooth men? I kind of hope not!
