The “truth” about something is all the facts about it, rather than things that are imagined or invented. For example, “I guess we’ll never know the whole truth about what happened.” Or “I must tell you the truth about him.”
There are also a couple of noun-phrases using the word, “truth”.
half-truth – a half-truth is a statement that is only partly true, and the purpose is to deceive or trick people. For example, a politician might tell half-truths about a situation in order to get more votes from their supporters.
home truth – a home truth is an unpleasant fact that you learn about yourself, usually through someone else. For example, a sports coach might tell the team some “home truths” about their performance (in other words, he thinks they are not playing well) so that he can motivate them to play better.
