Today’s word can be used to describe what is happening in a particular place at a particular time. It is commonly used in the news, to describe the “situation”. For example, “the police say they have the situation under control.” Or during Golden Week in Japan, the news might report something like this, “And now, let’s take a look at the travel situation around the country.”
However, it is not only for news reports and more formal “situations.” You can also use it to describe what is happening to you personally. For example, “I really want to improve my job situation so I am learning English.” Or “If you want to improve your situation you need to have a positive mental attitude.”
