Have you seen the movie, “Dead Poets Society” with Robin Williams? In that movie, Robin Williams tells his students not to use the word “very” because it is a lazy way to speak and write.
He says, “So avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy. A man is not very tired, he is exhausted. Don’t use very sad, use morose.”
And for today’s word, don’t use “very big”, use “immense”. Or huge, enormous, massive, monumental, tremendous, vast. If you’re a beginner learning English, then of course, use “very” and keep things simple. However, if you want to improve and increase your vocabulary, learn words so that you don’t need to use the word, “very”!
Bye,
Chris
